I screencapped this from the Rango trailer and promptly decided that there is no possible way that it could be anything but a Hunter S. Thompson reference right here. I mean. Look at it!

Tim Tomkinson: “Duck Hunter S. Thompson”
As your attorney, I advise you to write Nintendo as many letters as it takes to make this game real.

This is absolutely ridiculous, and I love it.

@doctor-gonzo!
see? not-so-scrawny-Depp!
…ok, more like “still scrawny but not THAT scrawny Depp.”
Note from Hunter S. Thompson to Michael Wiese (via Criterion Collection)
Love his writing. Maybe even more than Ralph Steadman’s. (But I’m not sure.)
Fortunately this one is unmarked. And adorable. And HELL YEAH, Gonzo fist!
Still looking for an unwatermarked one of this though :(

So, since I’m finally finished with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and I’m getting through my Wolfman novel, this means I get to start on The Rum Diary soon. (Apparently my ol’ buddy Sherlock Holmes is getting put on hold for awhile, but he’ll be okay. It’s only a reread.)
Anyway. While trying to find out some things about the movie of The Rum Diary, I came across this gem. It made me even sadder that this movie wasn’t made while Hunter was still with us :( Very sad indeed, for many reasons, not the least of which is that Benicio - or, as Hunter misspelled his name, “Benecio” - would have been involved. LOLL. (Also, I love that Johnny is “Depp,” for some reason, but Benicio is “Benecio” and not “Del Toro.” Oh, HST!)
